Arrow It's best left up to the experts to get your hair done properly, visit the salon

You could get the perfect hairstyle for yourself by picking up DIY tips or by turning to an expert.

The market is flooded with hair-styling products. While some of them are convenient to use, others require professional expertise. So do people prefer the DIY (do it yourself) products or would they rather head to a salon to get a hair make-over?

For Sarika Kapoor, teacher, "Going to a salon definitely has its advantages, like getting professional help. At home you might end up with a disastrous hair-do."

Sunita Talhan, a hair stylist at a salon in the city says, "People always prefer coming to salons. We are all trained people and we understand what the client wants.

There are so many things which have to be taken into consideration before choosing a hair-style the texture and length of the hair, the client's requirements etc.

We do encourage clients to do a little bit of hair care at home and give them whatever guidance we can, but for formal parties women do prefer coming to salons to get their hair styled."

Agrees advocate Mamta Verma : "I have to attend so many formal parties and I do get tired of sporting the same hair-do all the time. On such occasions, I like to go to the salon to get my hair styled.

I don't have the time or the patience to do it on my own. Hair stylists are so well-trained that they do the job in a jiffy. I think that makes more sense than experimenting on your own."

But that's not what Rekha Bajpai feels: "I only got to the salon for a haircut. If I have to try a different hair-style, I'd rather do it at home. God knows what all they put in your hair at the salon I've had a very bad experience in the past!"

Margaret, another hair stylist tells us, "I get clients who want me to teach them easy hair-styles which they can make at home for a formal occasion.

There are several styles which one can practice at home and learn, but most of them look better if done by a professional. There are some very good products available in the market that are of great help for the DIY types."
