Post Hair salon entertains kids while they wait

Snip Snaps, a new salon in Wilton that specializes in cutting children's hair, opened its doors two weeks ago, offering kids some fun and games while they get a trim.

"We specialize in keeping kids entertained here," said Marita Howard, the manager of the Danbury Road store. "We want to make sure they are comfortable and having fun."

Howard is also one of Snip Snaps stylists, along with friend and co-worker Cheryl Franco. The two have been working together for 20 years at various salons.

"We had a lot of customers from previous places think this place (Snip Snaps) would be a good idea," said Howard

Patty Frattaroli, a Norwalk resident who has two children, has had Howard cut their hair for the past two years, and she's glad to see the stylist is now cutting hair nearby.

"We had to drive a long way before Snip Snaps opened here and now this place is so close, it's great," said Frattaroli. "I think this place has a great atmosphere, I mean my daughter loves it. She jumps right into the chair every time we come."

Snip Snaps offers its kid customers a variety of different toys to choose from to keep them entertained. The salon also has cable TV, movies, and a pink jeep, a blue jeep, or a red sports car for the children to sit in while they get their hair cut.

"I usually just talk to the kids, try to distract them, and it works," said Howard. "We also have a lot of toys here which helps."

Also, if it's a kid's first haircut, Howard said, they receive a special certificate to congratulate them. They also get their picture taken.

"I think this place is less intimidating for kids to come to then other salons," said Frattaroli. "They have a lot of distractions, which is helpful, and it's a fun place for kids."

The salon also has regular hair-cutting chairs and Playstation 2 games to occupy the older kids who come in for a hair cut. Snip Snaps will cut hair for any age, says Howard.

"We cut hair from a kids first haircut to teens," said Howard. "We have even had some kids dads come in and get their hair cut."

According to Howard, Snip Snaps will also be hosting kids birthday parties in the future.

Snip Snaps is located on 1 Danbury Road in Wilton. It's open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Haircuts for all kids are $20. Snip Snaps also has another location on 1051 Longridge Road in Stamford.

"I think that kids usually feel most comfortable with a routine, which is what we try to have here," said Howard. "Whether they sit in the same car or use the same stylist it helps and if that doesn't work we always have lollipops."
